The Hampton Inn & Suites New Orleans Downtown offers a convenient location near the French Quarter and Bourbon Street, but experiences mixed reviews regarding service and cleanliness. Recent stays have highlighted inconsistent room conditions, issues with staff responsiveness, and concerns about the surrounding area’s safety and upkeep.
It is very rare that I give out less than 4/5 stars on a review, but this was necessary. The rooms were nice don’t get me wrong but the service was terrible. Our rooms were never cleaned, the dirty towels that were used and put in a pile on the floor were never taken out and replaced with fresh towels, we had to go ask for towels ourselves. The valet service just did not feel right at all, came back to our car with items moved around and not in their original place as we left them. The location of the hotel was great it’s near the whole city but the service of the hotel was not it at all.
Worst hotel experience I've ever had. They charged me $350 for smoking. I don't smoke. Neither does my girlfriend. Neither of us smoked or vaped in that room once. What set their sensor off was almost certainly her Shark FlexStyle, a high heat hair tool that throws off vapor when you use product with it. Nobody from the hotel came to the room. Nobody knocked during the supposed event. No ash, no odor, no evidence of any kind. A machine flagged it and they charged the maximum automatically. I offered the manager the chance to inspect the room and go through every bag we had so he could see there was nothing to find. He refused. I asked for the General Manager's name so I could escalate. He refused that too. Over a week of follow-ups since and complete silence. Hilton corporate opened a case and told me they can't get the property to respond either. And for what it's worth, the rooms are dated and worn. The location is the only decent thing about this place. They'll take $350 off your card on a sensor reading, refuse to verify it, and then ignore you. Book somewhere else.
We went to 3 different room before we could settle in. The first bed had red stains on the mattress and sheets. 2nd mattress felt horrible. It was time to replace it. My husband and I toss and turn all night. The 3rd bed was better. Overall breakfast was good. Valet service was great! Locations great!
I usually stay at a Hilton property in the Warehouse District but decided on this Hampton Inn close to the Quarter for its price and location. That being said, the room was OK--it is obvious this hotel is due a major renovation. Nothing was wrong...it just seemed "old". Service at the front desk was great! They were helpful and gave me all of the coffee packets I wanted--thanks! The location is AWFUL! There were so many homeless people sitting up against the hotel wall starting sundown. Friends would drop me off at night (after dinner) and say: "don't go out at night--stay in your room" because of the riff-raff loitering around the hotel entrance. One friend (who knows the city well) said the fried chicken place at the corner was a known drug dealing location. While this isn't the hotel's problem, it was a problem for me. I will go back to the Warehouse District next visit even it it's a little more money. It's much safer there and OK to go out at night.
I recently stayed at the Hampton Inn in downtown New Orleans, and overall it was a really great experience. The location was one of the biggest positives for me. It’s only a couple blocks from Bourbon Street, with plenty of businesses, restaurants, and things to do within a short walk. What I really liked was how easy the property was to navigate. Unlike some massive hotels where you feel like you need a map just to get to your room, this place was simple and convenient. The valet was right there at the entrance, and the elevators were only a few steps inside the building, which made coming and going incredibly easy. It honestly felt more comfortable and practical, almost like staying in a downtown apartment rather than a giant tourist hotel. The staff was excellent across the board. There was a young lady working valet who genuinely stood out. She was extremely friendly, professional, and helpful — honestly more like a concierge than a valet attendant. She made people feel welcome and was the kind of person who naturally improves a guest’s experience. I really think she’s underutilized in her current role and could easily succeed as front desk staff or as a concierge at a higher-end property. I also want to mention the gentleman who checked me in. He was quick, efficient, and very good at solving problems on the spot. You could tell he had real hospitality experience and knew how to handle situations calmly and professionally. He honestly carried himself like someone who could end up running a hotel one day. I briefly spoke with the manager as well, and she was very pleasant and personable. The rooms and beds were spotless, and I had zero issues with cleanliness during my stay. Breakfast was solid, and having 24-hour valet service gave me peace of mind with my vehicle the entire time. If I had one piece of constructive criticism, it would simply be that having a more visible permanent security presence out front might help, since there were sometimes people lingering around the entrance area. I never once felt unsafe or threatened, but in a busy downtown environment, it’s always reassuring to see security visible near the property. Overall though, I’d absolutely stay here again. The convenience, cleanliness, and especially the staff made this one of the easier and more enjoyable hotel stays I’ve had in downtown New Orleans.
I had a pleasant 24 hour stay with the Hampton on Cardondelet St. I was visiting for work. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Elevators were easy to navigate. Not too long of a wait as is with some large city hotels. Check in was easy. Breakfast is on second floor and had a good selection. Close to everything but people on the street are quite sketchy until you get to Canal St. I also had to use their business center in the second floor for printing and it was easy to use.
This hotel was absolutely perfect. Immediately upon arrival we were greeted with valet staff that assisted my family and I and helped us with our luggage. The people at the front desk were extremely kind and helpful. Our room was exceptionally clean and the view was amazing. The next day we went down for the complimentary breakfast and there were so many options and choices for breakfast. This hotel is an easy walk the Superdome as well as Bourbon street. I will definitely be staying here next time my family and I visit again. Whomever is running this hotel is doing an absolute wonderful job.
Great hotel until one of the young female staff singled out my wife at the breakfast room and told her to sit at the table for five minutes until they opened. There were already people eating. Completely ruined our thoughts of this hotel to employ someone like that. Reported it to front staff. Rest of staff was good, elevators were quick. Convenient location. However we will not be back after that experience. We also checked out a day early for the bad experience.
Service and room size make the Hampton Inn almost worth considering, but location and vibe tip the decision to a solid no, look elsewhere. I’m gonna parrot a lot reviews this location has already garnered. The hotel has very spacious rooms, I gather an unavoidable quirk of turning an older building into an updated hotel. In addition, everyone we dealt with provided great, friendly customer service. Zero service problems. Now the bad. We traveled with a club volleyball team and two team families had to switch rooms. One because her ceiling began to sag with water collection from the room above, and eventually caved in to the bathroom floor. The second because her television and air conditioning quit working. The biggest drawback to this hotel though, the location and dusk till dawn street party of sketchy locals. That end of Carondelet street (closest to Canal) features a lot of drug use, public intoxication, etc. Two nights featured a street side barbecue pit, with twenty or so people drinking and carrying on all night. One mother in our party, traveling alone, was nearly knocked to the ground by a homeless man jumping on her from an alley. Not a nice place to stay in general given the street atmosphere. I made sure I kept a careful eye on the street folks while ushering my family in and out of the hotel.
Very close to Bourbon street & the French Quaters. Beds extremely hard House keeping isn't daily Be careful of their varying cancelation policy Parking is $52 a night Elevator doors close very quickly my niece was bruised by the door shutting on her Angelina was extremely rude and unwilling to help with an issue prior to check in The sink in our room was clogged the entire stay & the counter top was broken. Breakfast free but very basic not many options for vegans or vegetarians so we had to go out for breakfast No free water was given like most Hilton brands Worse experience as a Hilton Honors Diamond member besides the valet attendees and the young man who checked us in Friday afternoon
