Hotel Royal offers a historic and charming stay in the heart of the French Quarter, boasting a prime location and friendly staff. However, guests have reported issues with inconsistent hot water, limited parking, and noise levels, as well as some structural inconveniences like stairs and shared balconies. While many appreciate the hotel's ambiance, some improvements are needed to address recurring concerns.
Difficult to even find the staff at times. We left our key in our room and had to call a posted number and wait for someone to show up from off site. Checkout was the same, we were trying to leave while there was a break in the tropical storm and someone finally came in from outside that worked there. Rooms were very clean and the charm of the old building was amazing.
Despite very limited parking, this is a great little hotel! Nice clean rooms. Great amenities. And a friendly staff! All right near the French Quarter! Highly recommended!
The staff was very helpful and the location was perfectly in-between to all the places we wanted to explore. The rooms were way smaller then I expected but I may have over looked the photos/ dimensions(if there was any). Our hot water did not work and we were staying there for 4 nights so that was a biggie. Staff immediately responded to the issue but still no hot water. Read some reviews and found out that if you run the sink hot water at the same time, the shower would work, and sure enough it worked perfectly lol I don't recall reading the balconies being shared balconies with the room next door and we had got our 12&18 year old girls that room since the trip was for them(The Originals fan) so we were definitely over cautious. The kids loved the trip and loved the hotel vibes!
We have stayed at this location a few times now and it’s perfect for our needs. Most of our stays have been 5 star and some have been 4 star. It definitely matters which room you stay in but every room we have stayed in has been quiet, nice bedding, and comfortable. Our fav is room 25. It’s on the ground floor, and has a bathtub shower. Recently we stayed in room 5. Was a lovely small room, amazing AC, and the bed was wonderful just like the others. However, it’s up and down 5 sets of stairs and the standing shower has small tiles which hurt our feet. Recommend shower shoes if you stay in this room. There’s also no beverage options at the hotel so be sure to bring your own waters or sodas. There’s no microwave or refrigerator but they do have an ice machine on the ground floor. Location is PERFECT for walking around and exploring the French Quarter. If you want out of the FQ it’s going to be about $20 uber ride there and back tho. We will be returning.
Beautiful hotel with great staff. Only issues- water pressure was low and hot water was scarce. Also, there’s no elevator so if they don’t put you on the ground floor, climbing all of those steps with luggage is tough.
Really loved our stay here, great staff, great location. Love Royal street, the hotel is very old and historic so take that into account when booking. If youre looking for the newest everything this isn't your hotel. But if you want authentic, historic, French quarter vibes then this is your place. Booked a king balcony room and loved it.
The location is perfect for both partygoers and those who appreciate a quieter surrounding. This hotel is in Royal Street which is parallel to Bourbon Street where the bars are located. It was safe walking around even at night checking out small shops showcasing different artworks like paintings, jewelries, photography, clothes, antique items, and other unique souvenirs. The hotel is within walking distance of must-see attractions and restaurants, and conveniently close to the first bus stop and ticket office for the Hop-on-hop-off bus tour, which made sightseeing incredibly easy. Perry and Macy at the front desk were absolutely amazing! They truly went above and beyond to accommodate my needs and were incredibly helpful even with things that weren't technically part of their job. Their service made a big difference in my stay. The bathroom in my room was smaller than expected, and for some reason, there was no safe in my room. The hotel had rooms up to the fourth floor, and there isn't any elevator. I guess you'd just have to inform them ahead of time if you have trouble walking up the stairs so that they can find a room for you on the ground floor or the second floor at least. Aside from those issues, everything else was great, and I had a wonderful experience overall.
This location was 5-10mins from everything we wanted to see and do (5*). At the time of booking I was unwavering of the "The Originals-TV series" was filmed at the location. We chose this hotel because of the jacuzzi tub. The price was fair but wanted a more of a relaxing soak after our cruise. The bathroom was not cleaned! We advised front desk staff (3*)who tried to help as much as possible (seeing that the cleaning staff had left for the day). The bathroom had hair everywhere. The tub was DIRTY! The front desk staff attempted to clean the bathroom on 2 separate occasions that evening without using a drop of water as well as leaving hair still visible in the shower and on the floors (see attached pictures). The walls are so thin we could hear everything going on outside and inside the hotel. The windows were boarded shut and locked (1*) We have tried to reach management during and after our stay. 5times with no call back/ return email.
The hotel itself is beautiful and the location is perfect. Unfortunately the shower did not have hot or even warm water. I was told the boilers were on and to run the sink at the same time. This did not remedy the problem. Frigid showers are truly awful. I would not recommend this hotel to others.
Room was a little small, and parking is pretty messed up. But the place is really nice. What made it great and deserving of the 5 stars was the 2 people I came in contact with from the front desk. 1 lady that I didnt catch her name, but she was extremely nice and even offered to hold open the 2 doors to let me in with my luggage (i had alot). The other was Perry. He was always in a great mood, no matter the time. He held great conversations, and had great customer service. I cant say anything bad about them at all.
