The InterContinental New Orleans offers a prime location in the heart of the French Quarter, boasting spacious rooms and a decent gym. However, reviews highlight inconsistencies in room quality, with some rooms appearing dated and in need of updates, while others receive praise for cleanliness and comfort. Service experiences vary, with some guests experiencing exceptional hospitality and others encountering unhelpful staff and delays. Valet parking and city fees add to the overall cost.
Pros-breakfast is good, (the omelette guy made my morning) and cheaper to buy in advance. Decent gym. Great location. very spacious balcony. Clean, met all basic needs, convenient located. Cons- doesn’t feel 4 star. Felt like we mainly paid for the balcony. front desk ladies weren’t very helpful with explaining how anything works. Some of their information was outdated. Very basic rooms, no fridge or microwave. READ MINIBAR DISCLAIMER. Don’t let your kids eat the snacks, they aren’t free lol
Excellent Team at Intercontinental Hotel New Orleans! Reception staff members were helpful, knowledgeable and great at problem solving (accommodating our many room changes for our group). Dontae, Audra and Marjan - a BIG thank you! Rooms were spacious and clean. Breakfast at Pete's was excellent - a variety of choices and again, an excellent team of servers. Kathleen and Sohail made our mornings memorable with their attentive and efficient service. The hotel's location is ideal, quiet and its only a short walk to the french quarter. The Tram stop is across the street giving you access to the entire area. Will stay again. Thank you to everyone for making our stay memorable.
I stayed at this property over Mother’s Day weekend for an staycation, and overall my stay was pleasant. The room itself was great, and the one issue I had with the water pressure was handled immediately and professionally. My concern is with the way I was treated during breakfast at Pete’s on the morning of May 9th. I was seated by a Black woman with an accent who was very welcoming. However, after being seated, I sat for over 10 minutes without being acknowledged or assisted while guests who were seated after me were greeted and helped almost immediately. Eventually, the manager, Justin, came over to greet me and take my order. He explained that they were very busy and that he was stepping in to help. While I did observe him assisting around the restaurant by removing dishes and handing out refills, I did not witness the restaurant being sooooo busy to where management HAD to step in and take orders as majority of the people there were already eating. Once my food finally arrived, I needed ketchup and once again sat for several minutes without assistance until the bartender, Sandee, stepped in to help me. She was the only person who consistently checked on me, offered to refill my water and coffee, and made an effort to ensure I had what I needed. As I explained to Sandee while visibly upset and crying, people work very hard to be able to enjoy certain environments and experiences, and it is deeply hurtful to feel overlooked or as though they do not belong. Watching other guests receive immediate attention while I repeatedly sat unassisted made me feel singled out and, honestly, discriminated against in that moment. That experience left me embarrassed and emotional, and it put a very negative cloud over what otherwise would have been a great stay. I do want to acknowledge Sandee for her kindness and attentiveness, because she was the one person who made me feel seen and cared for during that experience..
The lobby and main floor common areas of the hotel are beautiful and well cared for, when you walk in you are immersed in a feeling of luxury. However the guest rooms (or at least ours) tell a different story. The carpet was sticky in places, the bathtub shower combo looks like it's seen better days with staining and chipping, and a faucet that never stopped dripping. The decor in the room is nice and upscale (marble inlaid tables and dressers, artful wall sconces and lighting) but a little worn. The beds are firm but comfortable with warm comforters, pillows are small and only three to a bed. The fridge in the room of a mini bar with outrageous prices and pressure sensors so you cannot remove items to store your own, although the front desk will bring you a fridge if you ask. A large Kit Kat bar will set you back $8. Parking is pricey (like anywhere in the Quarters) but if you choose to use the cheaper self park option be prepared to struggle to find an actual parking spot at the very top of the ramp because most of the ramp is reserved for the $60 valet parking. It wasn't a bad stay but could have been better. I expect a cleaner room in better shape for a hotel like the Intercontinental.
The 20% gratuity for eating in the restaurants is unreal, as they also have a line below it to leave gratuity. If you don’t read the receipt line by line, you could be paying 40% for gratuity. A couple other restaurants there do the same. There needs to be a mini fridge to keep your water is cold as it was quite warm and humid while we were there. The staff was great, the hotel was clean and upkeep. The concierge was amazing as well.
We stayed at the Intercontinental New Orleans during Mardi Gras and it turned out to be an excellent choice. The hotel is located on St. Charles Street which is on the major parade routes. All we had to do was step outside to have a great view of the parades. The front desk staff was exceptionally helpful throughout our stay and both the onsite restaurant and bar were solid. Our room was extremely large and comfortable and well equipped but was due for updating, not at the level we expect of an Intercontinental property..
I was very happy with my recent stay and would stay again. The rooms are clean and updated (though too many minibar/snack goodies for my preference, and the walls are maybe a *bit* thin). The location is about perfect, just a couple blocks away from the French Quarter, right off St. Charles Ave so taking the streetcar is easy, and just a short walk down Poydras to the riverfront. Staff is very friendly especially the front desk/porter. Conference facilities were pleasant as well as the food provided for the event for the most part.
I wanted to thank the InterContinential Hotel for the best service! My mom and I were staying in New Orleans for our first time together, and we did have to move rooms on the first night but they treated us with the utmost respect and kindness, and Donate (apologies if I spell your name wrong) was the BEST front desk service host I have ever had and I have travelled a lot. All of the women were wonderful as well, and always so kind. I loved Trenasse the hotel restaurant, it had the BEST service, and I went there 3 times because of the service. Please keep it up I will be back, and due to the kind ness we had the best overall experience from check in to check out. 10/10. We will be back! Thank you again!!! Mark was also a great manager who offered us a double queen on day 1. Such a great place to stay!!!
I’ve had the pleasure of staying here a couple of times. Each time the overall experience has been consistently wonderful. The rooms have a certain style and charm that makes every stay feel like a special occasion. The restaurant features a delicious and varied menu. Guest service is excellent as well.
The location of the InterContinental New Orleans is excellent—very convenient to the French Quarter and getting around the city. Unfortunately, the hotel itself did not feel like a true 4-star property. Our room was extremely dark and quite dated, with virtually no natural light, which made it feel tired rather than welcoming. The rooms also lacked adequate soundproofing, and we could clearly hear barking dogs and crying children, which affected our ability to rest. Housekeeping was inconsistent and did not replenish basic items like toilet paper, Kleenex, or soap once we ran out, which was disappointing. On a positive note, the front desk staff were genuinely kind and helpful, which we appreciated. We spent most of our time in the French Quarter and, in hindsight, should have gone with our instincts and chosen a more romantic, boutique-style hotel. Overall, the location carries this stay more than the accommodations or amenities, which did not meet 4-star expectations.
