The Andrew Jackson Hotel offers a historic location in the heart of the French Quarter, praised for its charm and proximity to Bourbon Street. However, recent reviews highlight significant maintenance issues, inconsistent service, and cleanliness concerns, suggesting a property in need of substantial investment. Staff experiences vary widely, with some offering exceptional service while others are perceived as unhelpful and dismissive.
The only redeeming qualities is the location and courtyard. Management has absolutely neglected this hotel. Service: There were no staff present at our 4pm check in and the keypad lock to our room wasn’t functioning. We called 5 times and emailed the helpline with no response. We had to contact their sister location to provide us with a physical key. There was only one day out of a 5 day stay that I consistently saw a receptionist, otherwise good luck getting ahold of their sister location. We were also only offered house keeping and fresh towels on the second day. They offer a valet service but beware it will take them 30-45min to drive one mile. Oh, and they will eat half of your pack of gum if you leave it in your car! They also didn’t have water available consistently in the lobby, literally not offered at all on the hottest day of the week. Room condition: No weatherstripping on outside doors, moldy shower liners, moldy bed skirts, grimy/stained sheets, broken furniture, a random metal pipe scotch taped to the bathroom window (I suppose that’s the best safety measure they could come up with). Need I say more???
You've heard the saying 'you get what you pay for.' and this is a relatively low price. Still, I was not OK with paying anything at all to walk into a room with crumbs and debris on the floor, and other people's pubic hairs under the re-used sheets. OK, yeah that happens sometimes at other places, but then you have the ability to talk to them about it for resolution. At this place, they will hide and not answer their phone, and you will be stuck. If you leave, you are stuck with the expense ~ if you stay, you are stuck with other people's pubic hairs. I thought I would be justified in disputing this with my credit card company, but this place did actually make effort to make sure to still charge me. Too bad there is no efforts to provide a clean place to sleep. In summary: filthy rip-off.
Absolutely loved staying here! The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming from the moment we arrived. They even let us keep our luggage downstairs, which made everything so much easier. Every morning they would bring room service and always checked in to ask if we needed anything or if there was any way they could help. The location is amazing — right near the French Quarter and Bourbon Street, so pretty much everything is within walking distance. It’s also only about two blocks from the cathedral, which made exploring so convenient and fun. Staying here was such a cool experience. I would definitely come back! I didn’t personally experience any hauntings, but the place definitely has a creepy vibe in the best possible way. If you love history and enjoy a spooky atmosphere, this is definitely the place for you. It’s such a cute, safe place to stay, and the staff truly made the experience unforgettable!
This place was awful—one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The property is run down, poorly maintained, and feels completely neglected. The rooms were in terrible condition—dirty, worn out, and far below even the most basic standards. It’s shocking that they are still renting these rooms to guests. You would genuinely be better off staying at a cheap roadside motel. I was told they never fully rehired staff after the pandemic, and it shows everywhere. There’s a clear lack of upkeep and attention to detail. What made it worse was management’s attitude. I spoke with the manager about the condition, and he simply didn’t care. Other guests I talked to were just as frustrated and disappointed. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. This place is not worth your time or money.
Leroy is amazing. Brett was lovely too. Everything else about this hotel was rough. Rooms were dirty, and very noisy. The plumbing was dysfunctional - a maintenance guy had to show me how to use the shower because to quote him, “it was installed incorrectly” No one came in to freshen up the room each day so we had to request towels. Once we were told there were “no large towels available” so they gave us a couple hand towels. Also - didn’t know that the hotel had a reputation for being haunted, but that meant there were lots of tours around the hotel at any given moment. Overall- the experience was disappointing and not worth what we paid to stay here. It’s pretty clear the hotel owners are deprioritizing this property to focus on others, which is a shame. It has a lot of potential.
Brett, Leroy and the rest of the staff were amazing. Helpful, fun and friendly. Our room wasn't the best but for the age of the building you can expect the odd issue. It's historic so don't expect the Hilton or similar. To be fair we've stayed in a lot worse that's nowhere near as old. Great location for everywhere in and around the French quarter. Staggering distance from bourbon street. Short walk one way and you're in Frenchman street the other way to canal street.
This is by far the best place to stay in New Orleans. Leroy is the manager and he’s amazing, a very welcoming host who’s a pleasure to speak with, he went above and beyond to make our stay truly special. The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable and the courtyard is lovely. This is the only place we’ll stay at moving forward. It’s also the perfect location, one street over from bourbon and just a couple of blocks’ walk to The Jackson Square. Thank you so much for this unforgettable stay, I’d highly recommend!
Stayed here with my daughter for her 21st birthday. Great location, close to everything in the quarter. Staff was always warm and welcoming throughout our stay. Felt safe at all times. Prompt service regarding the valet service. Overall, I would recommend and I would stay here again. Gave 4 stars because we did experience some loud lobby door noise at night (nothing ear plugs wouldn't have solved) and they didn't have hair dryers available.
Solo-travelers especially women, BEWARE!!! Terrible experience!! Believe what a previous guest (Renzhi Zhao) forewarned in their Google review about this hotel being a scam of hidden fees. I booked this hotel through a third-party company with my job for my birthday. The issues I experienced began when I discovered the parking fees were $53+ per night. A process that is NOT clear and purposely left vague on their website. The staff who assisted me provided conflicting prices, as I was told i would have to pay an additional $153.19 for parking in addition to the $200+ I had already paid for the reservation itself. I was told I have to pay the parking through "Expedia Express" which IS NOT clearly outlined on the hotel's website. The situation escalated when the attendant became belligerent and threatened me stating, "You have two options, you can take the reservation or I'm calling the police." I was also surprised by the gross comment made when I asked the attendant to consider my perspective as a solo female traveler. I understand that mistakes can occur; and even the staff being "new" which I made clear and showed empathy to him. However, the lack of transparency, misinformation, and unacceptable behavior displayed by the staff raises concerns about customer safety and satisfaction. When I asked the staff to consider my perspective as a solo, woman traveling, he responded, "that doesn't matter." As a result, I strongly advise solo travelers, especially women, to be cautious when booking with this hotel and consider alternative options that prioritize customer concerns and well-being. Additionally, I found it peculiar that the staff not only refused to provide me with his name which thankfully I already knew thanks to earlier introductions, but he refused to provide the name of the general manager despite these clear instructions given from the third-party app, when they advised us both (on speakerphone) the steps I needed to request a refund. If there was no issue, or if they weren't running a scam, it would have been reasonable to provide this information. The fact that me requesting their names led to the staff threatening multiple times to call the police on me is VERY telling and I implore travelers to use discernment. Per instructions from the third-party app, I needed management approval for the refund which they of course, denied.... But it's alright! What's done in the dark will come to light! I will be sharing my experience on every review site possible and filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau to bring this to their attention as I believe this requires further investigation. Management, no need to respond now when you see this review as you had your chance to correct this! The only response you should give is your name and a refund! I do hope that this experience serves as a cautionary warning for future travelers who prioritize safety and transparency in their accommodations.
Great location. Pray you don’t need maintenance for anything, as the one younger male was very rude and brief. Front desk attendants are pleasant and helpful. The rooms are very small, only a bed and dresser and a bit of walk around area. Bed is almost too big for the room. We stayed in room 208 hoping that the rumors and stories of it being haunted were true. The only haunting we experienced was the shallow temperature drop at sundown. They front desk has coffee hour from 6-11am No options for breakfast other than to find somewhere in the area or order online. No laundry services No pool No fitness center Now the pros- Just like most of NOLA, This is a historic hotel with some deep rooted NOLA history dating back to the previous construction of the hotel was an orphanage that caught on fire allegedly trapping 4 children that now haunt the hotel. The area is rich in French and Spanish architecture.
