The New Orleans Marriott offers a prime location in the heart of the city, close to popular attractions and restaurants. While generally well-received for its convenient location and friendly staff, recent reviews highlight inconsistencies in room cleanliness, billing errors, and outdated facilities. Some guests experienced issues with noisy elevators and concerns about the overall quality of the rooms.
First, let me give a HUGE SHOUT OUT TO Jamyia! Upon arrival she first thanked me for being a titanium member and made sure that everything was added to my reservation and she was so informative and just welcoming!! We stayed here for a birthday gathering and I must say it was a great location, the atmosphere was amazing, the staff in the M Club was very helpful and went above and beyond to make sure that your breakfast and dinner as well as any takeouts we're taking care of! Would definitely recommend this Marriott to other family and friends.
I stayed at the Marriott New Orleans while attending the National Association of Community and Restorative Justice (NACRJ) Conference, and overall, I would say my stay was pleasurable and the hotel was nice. There were a few things that definitely had me giving a little side-eye, though. When I first checked in, I was told that I had been assigned a connecting room. Now, let me be clear, I was not interested in that. My colleagues were staying at a different hotel, and the one colleague who was staying at the Marriott wasn't checking in until the next day. So, there was no reason for me to have a connecting room, and honestly, for safety reasons, I just wasn't comfortable with it. Thankfully, the front desk staff was accommodating and checked for another room. I was able to get a different room, which I appreciated. The room itself was nice, and I had two double beds. My only complaint about the room was the lack of a full-length mirror. Ladies, you know the struggle! Now, let's talk about the room rate, because THIS is where I had an issue. The conference rate was $169 per night, but I was charged $199 per night. That was a discrepancy of about $30 per night, which added up to more than $100 over the course of my stay. I did contact the hotel after receiving my bill because, ummm… we're going to need to reconcile those numbers. Now, I will say that checkout was very busy,.to say the least... There were over 1,600 people attending the conference, plus another conference happening at the hotel at the same time. So, needless to say, it was a BUSY week at the Marriott. I understand that things can get hectic, but I still expected the conference rate to be reflected correctly on my bill. Another thing that caught my attention was the $500 incidental hold placed on my credit card at check-in. I understand that hotels place a hold for incidentals, and I know it's temporary and typically released after checkout. However, I have stayed at Marriott properties before, as I am Marriott Bonvoy member and I am used to seeing an incidental hold closer to $200–$250 for the stay. A $500 hold felt excessive to me, that's a pretty significant amount of money to have tied up temporarily, even if it is eventually released. That part was definitely not tasteful to me. Now, on the positive side, there were definitely things I enjoyed! The hotel had a Starbucks, which is always a plus. They also had a bar and two restaurants, so there were options right there in the hotel. I stopped by the bar one evening and had a drink and some bar bites, a Turkey BLT. My colleague ordered wings, and everything was pretty good. The bar area was clean, and the staff was friendly and hospitable. The continental breakfast served during the conference was good, and as a tea person, I was VERY happy with the tea selection. They had Teavana, which I love, so that was definitely a win for me.One feature I actually appreciated was the elevator security system. You needed your room key to access the elevators, and once you were in the lobby, you tapped your key card and the elevator took you directly to your floor. There were no buttons inside the elevator, so you couldn't just hop on and start riding around to different floors. Some people complained about this because it meant you couldn't make an extra stop on another floor, but honestly, I understood the concept. With so many people coming and going during a conference, I thought it was a good safety feature. Once you were on your floor, you could take the elevator back to the lobby or access the conference areas as needed. For me, it wasn't an issue. Housekeeping was also good. I did have to call for extra towels one day, and they brought them up without a problem. Overall, I would say the Marriott New Orleans was a nice and comfortable place to stay for the conference. The staff was nice and hospitable, the hotel was clean, the amenities were convenient, and I enjoyed my overall experience.
Riverview: I visited last year and had a blast. I love being able to enjoy hotel amenities on-site. Guess what? I am returning with my classmates for our 30th Reunion. Our group housing coordinator, Bianca, has been: commuincative; thoughtful and reliable throughout the process. Service like this? Looks like I will become a Marriott girl. I love NOLA. Thanks.
Clean rooms. Great location. Helpful staff. Only thing I would change is to be allow to chrome cast, they do not have many TV channels or streaming options. The gym was also small, no space for mat work.
Well it is New Orleans so I wasn't expecting it to be quiet and peaceful. But, this place is pretty busy and right on Canal Street so no telling what you walk out to see when you leave the hotel. Everywhere you go it smells like weed , people all out in front of the hotel entrance smoking. We were in New Orleans for a wedding not because we wanted to be in New Orleans . In general everywhere we went in New Orleans is pretty dirty and disgusting . I don't get the destination charge of $30 a day on top of $62 a day for them to park my Suburban. The biggest issue was the second day our rooms, I had two connecting rooms, had a horrible smell. We were not sure if it was coming from the toilets or the air conditioning but I believe it was the air conditioning from cigarette smoke throughout the building probably. After waiting 3 hours from calling the front desk about it they never sent anybody to check it out. After a couple more calls they finally moved us to a lower floor. The rooms smell better but you could still smell it so I'm assuming it's from cigarette smoke. We had the breakfast buffet included in our rate and it was good. I don't think I would pay the $30 per person if it wasn't already included in my rate. We use the fitness center everyday, and it's very well equipped.
Room was great - in newly remodeled area. New furniture, bed was comfortable. Quiet. Service was good. Shower was nice. Towels were soft. No visible wear. They have low flow toilets, which is not my favorite. But, at least they are trying to minimize waste. The elevators took some getting used to. Location is great. Easy walking distance to so many places like Sazarac, House of Blues, bars, restaurants, and more. The pantry was so appreciated so I could grab dinner and necessities when I arrived. I got room service once and it was surprisingly good. For large crowds attending for a work conference: there were times when it was difficult to get where you needed to go due to the elevators and the bathrooms were far and small. But the food was good that was provided.
According to Expedia, I’ve stayed at over 35 properties throughout the Americas, and I can say with all my heart that the New Orleans Marriott has the best staff members I’ve ever encountered. Ms. Jerkyra (I hope I’m spelling her name correctly) checked us in, and she truly set the tone for our entire stay. She greeted us with the warmest smile, reconfirmed all the details of our reservation, and took her time walking us through every perk of the property. She explained the complimentary tour available at the Sazerac House, shared details about credits we could use with the concierge toward booking excursions, and gave us a full lay of the property. It never felt rushed — just genuine hospitality at its finest. I had originally booked a standard king room, but at check-in we were upgraded to a river-view room on the 35th floor. The views were stunning! To top it off, the culinary staff surprised us with chocolate-covered strawberries and a bottle of prosecco — such a thoughtful and unexpected touch. The property itself was beautiful and impeccably maintained — not a single piece of trash in sight. The location couldn’t be better. It’s within walking distance of what feels like hundreds of restaurants and bars, and just about a four-minute “skip and a bop” to Bourbon Street. I’m already planning my next trip to NOLA, and I will absolutely be staying at the New Orleans Marriott again. Such a pleasant, memorable experience from start to finish!
We stayed here for Mardis Gras and they did such a great job. In the lobby every morning they had beignets being made fresh and a bloody Mary bar. They are right on the tail end of most parades. They give you masks and beads as a gift. They kept the hotel very calm and controlled too. The hotel bar had an excellent king cake daquiris that was perfect. Room was quiet and clean and comfortable. Beds were amazing. So cozy and comfy.
I am very disappointed with my experience at this hotel. During my stay, a fragrance and my daughter’s iPhone charger went missing from our room. I immediately reported the incident to the front desk, and a security officer interviewed me and inspected the room. I was told the hotel would process the claim and follow up. However, today I received a call informing me that they would not proceed with the claim because I do not have evidence. This response is extremely frustrating and disappointing. As a guest, you trust that your belongings are safe in your room, and when something goes missing, you expect the hotel to take responsibility and handle the situation professionally. The value of the missing items was about $180, but this is not about the money. I spent over $1,200 during my stay, and what concerns me most is the lack of accountability and the feeling that guest safety and trust are not taken seriously. I expected better service and support from a hotel of this level. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling unsafe and undervalued as a guest. I hope management takes situations like this more seriously in the future.
Just want to give a little rave about this hotel. The room service was fabulous and hella affordable compared to the last couple Marriotts I've stayed at. The snack store was perfectly stocked, and I'm picky. The mocktails at the lobby bar were the best I've had. The location on the Mardi Gras parade route was perfection, just so incredibly convenient to watch from the window or run inside for the bathroom. They used a wristband system to restrict the lobby to just guests, which was a polished and thoughtful way to keep the hotel enjoyable. I loved every minute of my stay here. Now a bit on service - I was a difficult guest - I checked in at midnight and asked for a room with a parade view. Then in the morning, I asked if I could check a new room because of a cigarette smell in the first one. At their busy checkout time, a bell hop got me up to a new room just one floor off my prior one - without me even asking for the same view - and it smelled great. This really stood out, and every other interaction with service workers was equally supportive professional, and helpful. Just great staff all around!
