Bienville House offers a charming and historic stay in the heart of the French Quarter, praised for its convenient location and friendly staff. While some guests appreciate the vintage atmosphere and balcony views, others have experienced issues with room temperature, noise, and inconsistent service, particularly at the front desk.
Adorable! I love this place. Quaint, charming, delightful! My room was spotlessly clean, comfortable 4 poster bed and relaxing furnishings. It was very quiet too. The service was accommodating, I was allowed to check in early! This hotel is in the French Quarter and is within walking distance to everything. I will definitely stay here again.
The service was terrible! My family and I were driving in from California and arrived late on our check in day. Both the valet and front desk representative were rude and inpatient with us. The woman at the desk even made a comment to the valet person about us being “the reservation she’s been waiting for all evening”. Both were less than helpful with our baggage and the valet person asked us to park the car ourselves in the garage. Then, the door to our room had a visible gap at the top between the door and the frame so we could hear everything in the hallway and felt like we had very little privacy. The hot water did not work, it was like warm at best. The bathroom was small and did not have the usual amenities like body wash. The mini fridge was warm. We reserved a two queen bed room but were given 2 full beds. Cigarette smoke odor could be smelled throughout the hotel, even though they claim to be a smoke-free property. Lastly, we did not feel safe. There were questionable individuals loitering in and near the valet garage and we were approached with unwelcome advances twice. No security and no reassurance from onsite staff to make us feel safe. We ended up checking out a night early and reserved a room at the Bourbon Orleans hotel where we were met with hospitality, kindness and an exceptional hotel room for LESS money per night.
It is a lovely place, clean, works well for a long stay. There are just sometimes some odd noises at night (not too loud) and the wifi isn't the best, but other than that, it's awesome! I love that it is pet friendly - a lot of places are only dog friendly, making it hard to find a place for my cat. The pool is peaceful, drinks nice, (albeit a little expensive), and the front desk ladies are very kind and fun to be around. The hotel itself is within walking distance to many amazing locations that can help you cheaply enjoy all of new orleans without need of buying a ton of ubers or busses. I'd say this was a gem of a hotel.
Such a wonderful stay! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful from our first night to when we left. We will be recommending Bienville to all of our friends who visit this city. The location is in a prime area, with lots to see and do, but we found this was not a problem at all when it came to noise. It was just the right spot, where everything was accessible but we felt tucked away in our own little bubble. The pool are is beautiful! Made this spot feel like paradise. While I could go on about the location and hotel itself, I do want to emphasize just how wonderful the staff is. If you have the pleasure of meeting Ms. Beverly or Ms. Audwaine, know you will be very well taken care of during your stay!
I flew in to spend a long weekend enjoying the beautiful city of New Orleans. Unfortunately, my stay at Bienville House was largely ruined by Cynthia at the front desk. From the moment my guest and I walked into the lobby, we were treated with an unmistakably hostile and dismissive attitude. There was no “Welcome to Bienville House,” no greeting, no smile - just a cold demand for my last name, followed by “credit card.” After handing over our room keys, she simply pointed toward the elevator. It was one of the most shockingly poor check-in experiences I have ever had. I travel frequently and have stayed in hotels across the country and internationally. Never have I encountered someone in hospitality who seemed so bothered by the mere presence of paying guests. What made the situation even more upsetting was that this behavior was not limited to check-in. Throughout our stay, Cynthia repeatedly ignored us when we entered and exited the hotel. No greeting. No acknowledgment. No basic courtesy. Yet on more than one occasion, I watched her warmly greet other guests with a smile and enthusiasm that she never once extended to us. The difference in treatment was impossible to ignore. By the second day, my guest and I found ourselves actively avoiding interactions with her because every encounter felt uncomfortable and unpleasant. No guest should feel unwelcome in the hotel they paid to stay in. The final straw came on checkout day. Around 10:00 a.m., I called simply to ask whether a late checkout might be available. I fully understood that the answer could be no. Most hotels at least check availability before responding. Before I could even provide my room number, Cynthia cut me off and snapped, “I cannot accommodate that, and I’m not saying it again. I cannot accommodate that.” I was stunned. There was absolutely no reason to speak to a guest in such a rude, aggressive, and disrespectful manner over a routine question. It was the culmination of a weekend of poor treatment and confirmed that what we had experienced throughout our stay was not a misunderstanding - it was a pattern. Cynthia is a complete disgrace to the hospitality industry. Her attitude, lack of professionalism, and inability to treat guests with basic respect have no place at a property that markets itself as a welcoming New Orleans experience. One employee should never have the power to negatively impact a guest’s entire trip, yet that is exactly what happened here. The bright spot of our stay was the rest of the staff. Melani, the other front desk associates, and the bell staff were warm, friendly, professional, and genuinely pleasant to interact with. Unfortunately, Cynthia’s conduct overshadowed all of that. Because of her behavior, I will never stay at Bienville House again, nor would I recommend it to others. Management should take this feedback seriously and address it immediately, because no guest should be made to feel unwelcome, disrespected, or singled out during what should have been an enjoyable stay.
If you’re looking for a great location with old world charm but at an affordable price point, this is it. The location was PERFECT! Within a 15 minute walk of just about everything, and 1-3 minutes to a number and f amazing restaurants. The rooms could do with a little updating, and at night got pretty stuffy. Additionally the patio we paid extra for utilized chairs that were clearly supposed to have cushions, but there were none. The staff was kind of hit or miss in terms of friendliness. But the tiki bar downstairs made up for it.
Lovely boutique hotel right in French Quarter. Rooms are nice (we had a balcony), and the staff is also. Downsides: shower was torture over the weekend as far as temperature. Also, although housekeeping was good when it came, it is by request. I requested it for three days in a row, and finally had to beg for best way to acquire: call front desk in early morning. Shouldn't be so difficult. Also, asked for extra washcloths -- ft. desk said someone would bring them -- never came. No bar/restaurant except from 4-10 PM at adjacent Beachbum Berry's Latitude 29, which is fun but no breakfast or lunch (I see other reviews mentioned a provided b'fast -- not anymore). Oh -- asked for a taxi at desk as they said we could, but they couldn't figure it out & we used Ubers except for return to airport. Desk called a very talkative (but nice) ex-employee with a van, which we didn't know until he showed up. It was OK, and I understand trying to help out a friend, but it wasn't the taxi that I requested. I thought that was a little bit unprofessional. That said, everyone was very friendly -- just not as on top of things as one might expect.
Great hotel, awesome location right in French Quarter. Wife and I came to town to celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary. I was concerned about sirens because there was a fire station right across the street, but we never had a problem with that. The rooms were very nice, the staff from pulling in to the garage to checking out were just great. Only complaint I have is we were right next to the elevator and it was a little loud when people were coming and going at all hours of the night. Would definetly stay there again.
This review is about a year overdue, but my wife and I were just reminiscing about our stay. It was that good. We stayed here because its over Latitude 29, which is our favorite, ( or top two or three) bar in the country. We were upgraded to an awesome suite because they were out of the room we booked. It had an awesome, classic, NOLA balcony. But what really took our stay to the next level was Beverly, who hooked me up with a full breakfast meal when I asked if they had any crackers or anything small and basic when my wife needed something to calm her stomach in order to take some medicine when she wasnt feeling well one morning. 10/10. Amazing location. Amazing room. Amazing service. Amazing city.
This was my first visit to New Orleans and the Bienville House Hotel exceeded my expectations. The location was very convenient either direction we went was just minutes away from attractions in the area. The room was spacious, clean and the balcony with street view added that extra luxurious stay I was seeking. The staff were very pleasant and knowledgeable in regards to the area. Thank you again Bienville House for the lovely get away see ya soon. Lynne and Bill
