The Columns Hotel consistently receives positive feedback for its elegant historic ambiance, exceptional staff, and prime location on St. Charles Avenue. Guests consistently praise the welcoming atmosphere and attentive service, making it a memorable New Orleans experience. While some have experienced logistical challenges, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive.
The Columns is a beautiful building in a beautiful site with fantastic food but truly the staff are the greatest amenity. Our stay at the Columns was perfect. The staff from the front desk to the maintenance staff are consistently welcoming kind and helpful. Staying at the Columns is an opportunity to be welcomed by a staff that seem more like a family than employees. The building is elegant, beautiful, well cared for and the furnishings and artwork are curated to create a sumptuous eclectic environment. Each room is uniquely decorated with antiques and artwork. The details make this a wonderful experience. The site and the magnificent gilded age mansion would be sufficient to draw patrons, but the staff at the Columns are their greatest asset. If you wish to be welcomed like family and treated with New Orleans hospitality you could do no better than the Columns.
We had an absolutely amazing stay at the Columns! It is a beautiful building, and the furnishings are both comfortable and gorgeous. The staff members are what truly make this an exceptional place. Welcoming, gracious, approachable, and friendly- they made our visit! We loved having breakfast on the upstairs veranda and dinner on the porch. The food was delicious. We will be back!
Such an amazing stay! Before I booked this hotel I searched the internet looking for reviews. Most of the ones I found were for the restaurant and porch area. Thank goodness I went with my gut and booked anyway. This place is such a vibe. I booked the Premier Avenue Suite and couldn't have been more impressed. Such old school charm. It's so dark and moody and gothic...everything I love! Every staff member we encountered treated us like family. The room was spic and span when we arrived and I love the floor to ceiling "door" you could open up and walk onto the patio. The bathtub is an added bonus and it was long enough to fit my 6ft husband!! I could go on and on but if you are looking at this hotel, just do it, you won't regret it. I didn't see any ghosts but that's okay!
I want to love the columns so badly, and I've given it many tries since the happy hours and atmosphere are awesome. But the service just isn't where it should be for a martini to be $18. My friend and I waited 53 minutes for our check after asking for it, while our water glasses and drink glasses were empty the whole time. And this is pretty much the experience I've had every time I've been there. Always waiting to get another drink, or waiting to flag someone down for water, or waiting to see our server again to put a food order in. It just ends up ruining the whole experience when you've been waiting to get a refill for so long that all you and your party can focus on is getting the server's attention.
There is no better way to experience New Orleans than sitting on the porch at Columns with a cocktail in hand, watching the streetcars roll down St. Charles Ave. The restoration of this historic mansion is absolutely stunning—it feels grand and sophisticated while still being incredibly welcoming. The high ceilings, the woodwork, and the overall 'vibe' are unmatched. A true 5-star NOLA landmark!
Wow I mean where do I even begin. I booked this hotel specifically for my wedding weekend months in advance. The day I check in I’m told I’m supposed to be checking in at their sister property. Which is not what I booked, if I wanted to book there I would’ve. If I would’ve just received a call in advance or email I could’ve simply booked a hotel of my taste. Instead I was told there was a rodent problem they were trying to figure out but it turns out someone bought out the hotel for a wedding. Again if they would’ve just been honest even the day I checked in I would’ve immediately tried to book a room somewhere else. Instead they left me with hope that the rodent issue could possibly be figured out by Saturday. The only honest person was the restaurant manager who finally told us the truth Friday night and kindly offered one of their lounge rooms to get ready. Then day of my wedding im told I need to leave by 2:30 but I could still take pictures on the property. Well I had some lady on my wedding day in my wedding dress yell at me that I needed to get off the property immediately because someone paid a lot of money to buy hotel out and I couldn’t take pictures. I guess no one communicated to her I was told I was able to. Again the communication between the staff is very poor. Which I still don’t understand how someone bought out the whole hotel because my friend, part of my wedding party was staying at the columns. I will say I was kindly compensated more then I paid originally but that still doesn’t change the fact that they ruined my wedding weekend. I didn’t want my money back I wanted what I paid for months in advance. Whoever is running this hotel should really figure out a better system.
I guess Michelin is just handing out Keys now, because this hotel certainly didn’t earn theirs. Our experience was absolutely unacceptable. Half of our group—including the couple who rented the suite for their wedding—were told at check-in that their room was “unavailable due to a rat issue” and that we’d have to wait for an exterminator and an update “the next day.” They were moved to another hotel for the night and then completely ignored. No calls. No updates. Nothing. The only compensation offered was a comped room and silence. We had to hound the staff for any information and didn’t get real answers until 6 p.m. the next day. It turns out there was no rat—just a lie. The restaurant manager, the only honest and professional person we encountered, admitted the hotel had sold the suite out from under them. This issue could have been resolved months ago, but management chose to deceive and deflect instead. The dishonesty and lack of accountability are staggering. The restaurant manager tried to salvage the situation by letting the wedding party get ready in a downstairs billiards room, but even that turned into another insult. We were told we had to clear out by a specific time “because we have guests coming.” Imagine being kicked out of a makeshift prep space on your own wedding day because someone else was deemed more important. To then only 45 min later, after being rushed the hotel event planner actually said to the bride in her dress, “Do you know how much people pay to stay here? You’re not allowed to take photos. Please leave.” I’m furious at how this hotel is run. Guests were lied to, staff were left scrambling, and a wedding weekend was turned into a nightmare. Calling this a hospitality failure doesn’t even begin to cover it.
I came to the columns with my family and had the best service ever from Alexis. She was so knowledgeable and had incredible customer service skills. I would come back again just for her!! And the drinks were great. So was the fish dip.
We had such a wonderful experience with The Columns Hotel during our wedding day. They graciously hosted our “between-the-ceremony-and-reception” gathering, and it was the perfect place for us and our guests to relax and celebrate before heading to the reception. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive, making sure everyone felt taken care of. They were also able to place us in the back courtyard, which gave us a beautiful, semi-private space that felt intimate and special. We are so grateful for their hospitality and highly recommend The Columns Hotel for anyone looking for a charming and welcoming spot to host an event in New Orleans.
Stunning interior like a walk back in time. Wonderful food served on the balcony and large porch overlooking St. Charles. Enjoy watching the stree car's drive by, order a drink from the georgouse historical bar. Each room offers a different ambiance and remember your visit by taking pictures on a breathtaking staircase.
