The California Building offers a comfortable and convenient base for exploring New Orleans, praised for its location and attentive staff. While generally positive, recent reviews highlight cleanliness concerns and inconsistencies between the advertised amenities and the actual experience. The property leans more toward a condo rental with limited amenities.

The room was exactly as described, and the check-in process was smooth and easy. The room was clean, and everything we needed was provided. The property staff reached out several times during our stay to ensure we were satisfied with our accommodations and to see if we needed anything. The location was fabulous and just a short walk from all the action on Canal Street and Bourbon Street. I would definitely recommend this place and will gladly book here again when visiting New Orleans.

Recently stayed here during Essence Festival and had a wonderful experience The room was spacious and clean, check in was smooth, the ladies and gentlemen at the front desk were accommodating and answered any and all questions. Only drawback was the rooms need a full length mirrors ( fit checks lol ) and the water pressure is a little low. Those are only mi or criticisms though and will definitely stay here again.

The room was very spacious and was laid out well. The bathrooms were updated and were very nice. The furniture had some wear and the carpets had a few stains. There were only queen beds but that didn't bother us. Note that we booked through interval and there was an undisclosed $85 cleaning fee. The front desk staff were not much help. Upon arriving the door was locked and you have to buzz them on the intercom. Not a big deal but we didn't use their garage because the garage next door was much cheaper. Overall this is less of a hotel and more of an condo rental. Expect very little on amenities and service.

Our stay at the California building was exceptional. The staff was attentive and timely, the rooms were immaculate, and every detail was handled beautifully. The location was perfect — close enough to walk everywhere in the French Quarter but far enough away to enjoy peaceful nights without noise or disruption. We got great sleep while still soaking in all the beauty of New Orleans. Highly recommend.

Not worth the money. The room was decent, but it didn’t meet expectations at all. When we arrived, the couch cushions and pull-out mattress were stained, and even the bed sheets and pillows for the pull-out had noticeable yellow spots. The staff was quick to bring replacements, but unfortunately, we found a bug in the new sheets they provided. The most concerning part was the molded paper towel found on one of the ice cubes in the freezer. The room also didn’t match the photos provide, and the view was underwhelming. Most nights, we came back to a strong smell of weed in the apartment—even though none of us smoke. The “zen garden” was also misleading—just a few flowers and a statue, not a garden at all. The community patio felt bare and disappointing. Also, parking was advertised as included, but it actually requires a daily fee in a nearby (not connected) garage. While the staff was kind, helpful, and responsive, the overall experience was below average. We regret not booking a hotel instead, especially considering the price. We left feeling disappointed and that we could have stayed somewhere much nicer for the same cost.
